There are four (4) sectors/regions in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and these include Rushaga, ruhija, Nkuringo and Buhoma sector.
Located in southern part of bwindi impenetrable forest national park. The region is know in the history of tourism for protecting endangered mountain gorillas over 400 species inhabited this region and it is this sector with the largest number of gorilla families (5 in total) and these include; Busingye, Kungye, Bweza, Mishaga, and Nsongi.
Travelling to Rushaga, one is able to have a view of the Volcanoes Mountains at a distance providing beautiful scenery of mountain Virunga, mountain Muhavura, and mountain Gahinga besides another view of the deepest Crater Lake (Lake Bunyonyi) in Africa and this makes cruises available.
it is very easy to secure or book a permit in advance as over 400 permits are sold each day and only 8 people are allowed to trek a single gorilla family. One should ask about ask about the gorilla family of their interest before a permit is issued since this may depend the physical fitness of a person because some families are located different areas of the region.
The region has different lodges both community owned and foreign investors owned incase one needs is to spend a night in the region the following lodges can be used; Rushaga gorilla camp, Nshongi gorilla camp, Rushaga safe gorilla havens lodge and so many others.
Other activities in the region include gorilla habituation where tourists get involved in the wild training of these gorillas for over 4 hours to live with humans. There is also boat cruises since it’s a home to Lake Mutanda.
Located in the Eastern part of Bwindi forest national park and the family groups here include; Kyanguriro family, Bitukura family and Oruzogo all available for trekking. This sector is 2350 meters above sea level making it the coldest region in Bwindi.
Ruhija gives adventurous hiking trail to Rwaminyonyi peak. Other primates surely not missed include elephants, several monkey species among others. For accommodation lodges in Ruhija include Bakiga lodge, gorilla mist lodge and so much more.
Also located in the southern part of Bwindi. This sector is home to Nkuringo family available for trekking. Nkuringo is on a high altitudes making hiking also available to see gorillas and most favorable for the young and physically fit individuals without forgetting it’s at the summit, beautiful view of volcanoes in Uganda and Rwanda are clear making the sector worth visiting.

Located in the northern part of Bwindi and it is the most visited sector of the park compared to the rest. This is the first sector where tourism was first done after the habituation of Mubare family group (oldest group) in 1992.
Buhoma is close to Queen Elizabeth national park via Ishaha a sector famous for tree climbing lions adding another reason for the many travelers. Other family groups besides the Mubare family group include the Habinyanja habituated in 1999 and the Rushegura habituated in 2000 all available for trekking. Buhoma is also good for bird watching due to the rich in a variety of bird species.
